CMD Companion App

An app with reliable, plain-language care information about congenital muscular dystrophy (CMD), for families, people living with CMD and clinicians. Available offline and in five languages.

Why this app

CMD is rare, and good information is scattered. Families often have to bring clinicians who don’t know the condition up to speed themselves, sometimes in the middle of an emergency. The app puts the most important information in one place, in their own language, even without internet.

What the app already does

• Always available. The full guide lives on the phone, even without a connection. New content arrives in the background.
• Tailored to subtype and age. The information for the user’s own CMD subtype and age group is brought forward, without the rest disappearing.
• Quick Info. One tap to the emergency number, key contacts and the medical details a clinician needs to know first.
• Five languages. English, Dutch, Arabic (right to left), Spanish and French.
• Privacy without an account. Everything a user enters stays on their own device.
• Accessible. Large buttons, text up to 200 percent and a dark mode, for people with muscle weakness or low vision.

Where it stands

The app is in development and not yet in the app stores. The foundation is in place; the content is being expanded, including emergency guidance, and the app is being tested on real devices.
